Altenew Educator Certification Program: Easy Ink Blending Techniques

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my Crafty Corner.

Today I am sharing cards I created for Altenew Academy's class "Easy Ink Blending Techniques" offered by Amy Lee.  In this class, Amy demonstrates techniques that are great for all skill levels.

Here are the cards I am presenting today.  I made my own colored cardstock to coordinate with my card designs.

I challenged myself to stretch my supplies by creating two different cards using the same/similar products.

Note:  I used the same inks/colors on both panels. I used a few different techniques to create the colored cardstock.  The water coloring was completed with ink pads.

Card 1

Stamped image on white cardstock using the stamp wheel in black ink and die cut. Placed the die cut image on the sticky mat. Ink blended the image with coordinating stencils and various CP inks.  I used the same color inks and varied the application of ink to create light and dark/shaded areas. The coloring is darker where two points meet or one image lays on top of another.

I die cut an additional plain white panel and adhered to the colored panel to add height and stability.

I created the background by ink blending the Blue Horizon ink onto an A2 size cardstock. The Blue Horizon Ink was applied unevenly to add depth and interest to the background panel.

The image was die cut with the brushed gold cardstock with the outline cut from white.

Assemble the card as shown in the image.  Note: the image is larger than an A2 card so arrange in a pleasing manner and trim the excess.

Card 2

Of both cards, I had the most fun creating this one.  Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums.

I started by ink blending Blue Horizon ink onto an A2 size panel. I took my time and used a generous amount of ink.

Next, spray the panel with water. Be generous with the water and watch it move on the paper. The panel can dry naturally or with a heat tool on the lowest setting.

After the panel is dry, smush the ink pad direct onto a protected work surface.  I used my glass mat. Swipe a very wet watercolor brush through the ink and spatter onto the panel.  This effect adds nice texture and interest.

Stamp the tangerine image onto the hot press watercolor paper with versamark and heat emboss with gold embossing powder.  Don't forget to treat the paper with anti- static powder first.

Die cut with the coordinating die and cut a second die cut with plain white paper and put aside for assembly at the end.

Smush the various CP inks onto the work surface (glass mat) and watercolor the image. The same principle applies - darker color where one image lays on top of another and where two points meet.

I used the wet on wet technique and let the water do the work. After the paper dried, I added extra color where needed to create dimension.

Assemble the card and spatter with gold and white paint.

Add sentiments and gems.

Thank you for stopping by today.
