Welcome to my Crafty Corner.
Today's card is inspired by Altenew Academy's "Creative Watercolor Media" class, offered by Jennifer Rzasa, Debby Hughes and Laura Bassen.
WOW! This class is action packed and full of dreamy watercolor inspiration. I am glad the classes were pre-recorded as I found myself stopping the videos to take notes. There are many ways to add water color or to create a watercolor effect in cardmaking.
My cards reflect a bit of inspiration from all three instructors. I decided to use shimmer spray nozzles to add color to my images/panels using the wet on wet technique. I used Lindy's Stamp Gang Shimmer sprays as I wanted to create a shimmery vibe alongside of Altenew's Shimmer Relief Paste. I am in love with this paste and I want to use it on everything!
- exercise patience
- let the water and the pigment do the work
- don't try to control the process, it is not as precise as other coloring mediums
- practice the "wet on wet" technique on scrap watercolor paper first
- use repeating colors to create a cohesive look. (yellow = roses, leaves and background: green = leaves and background)
- spread the extra shimmer paste onto plain cardstock or extra watercolor paper as we will use to die cut the sentiments
- place watercolor panel on the sticky mat
- place cascading elegance stencil over top
- apply thin layer of shimmer relief paste over top of stencil using a palette knife
- set aside and let dry
- stamp three rose and several leaf, images from the Flower Garden stamp set onto hot press watercolor paper using versamark ink, add silver embossing powder and melt with the heat tool. I used my stamp wheel to stamp the images.
- with a paintbrush, apply water to each image, one at a time.
- apply the pigment with the bottom of the spray nozzle and watch the color spread. Let it dry naturally for the best effect
- pink and yellow shimmer for the roses
- green and yellow shimmer for the leaves
- take the dry, paste embossed background panel and spray with water - the shimmer paste resists the water
- drop in the color (green and yellow) with the bottom of the spray nozzle.
- put everything aside to dry naturally
- let the water do the work
- when the panel is dry, die cut the roses and leaves
- trim the background panel to size A2 and adhere to card base
- arrange the images and adhere to the card.
- place watercolor panel on the sticky mat
- place flowing drops stencil over top
- apply thin layer of silver shimmer relief paste over top of stencil using a palette knife
- set aside and let dry
- take the dry, paste embossed background panel and spray with water - the shimmer paste resists the water
- drop in the color (green, brown and yellow) with the bottom of the spray nozzle.
- put everything aside to dry naturally
- let the water do the work
- trim the panel to A2 size and adhere to card base
- use the cardstock with the left over shimmer paste to die cut two sentiments from the scripty sentiments die set
- use vellum to die cut the coordinating sentiment shadow dies
- die cut the leaf image from the fresh flowers die set with vellum
- emboss the leaf die cut with the leafy splendor embossing folder
- adhere the elements to each card as shown in the example or create your own arrangement
- strategically add glue behind elements so that it does not show through the vellum
Your cards look so good! Love that they both are so different from eachother yet somehow still cohesive!
