Altenew Educator Certification Program: Impressive Heat Embossing

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my Crafty Corner.

Today's card is inspired by Altenew Academy's "Impressive Heat Embossing" class offered by Svetlana Marchenko.

In this class, Svetlana demonstrates many ways to use heat embossing in cardmaking.  I thoroughly enjoyed this class as heat embossing is one of my favorite techniques.  Watching embossing powder melt is a magical experience.

Today's card combines several techniques outlined in the class.  If you are looking to take your heat embossing to the next level, this class is for you.

This layering stamp set is perfect to create layers with embossing powders as opposed to inks. Each layer melts into the precious one which creates a very cool look.

Instructions

Panel

  • trim brown cardstock to 4/14 x 5 1/2 panel
  • apply anti static powder to the panel
  • ink top inside of the Deck Planks embossing folder with Versamark Ink Pad
  • run through die cut machine
  • remove brown panel, apply clear embossing powder and melt with heat tool
  • adhere panel to A2 card base
Leaves - technique: stamp with versamark on colored paper, apply clear embossing powder and melt with heat tool. The result - the image is a shade darker than the underlying cardstock.
  • I chose four leaf clusters that work well for the intended technique
  • apply anti static powder to green cardstock
  • large and medium leaf clusters - stamp with versamark ink pad on green card stock, melt with heat tool
  • small leaf clusters - stamp with versamark ink pad and heat emboss with gold sparkle embossing powder
  • die cut images and set aside
Roses - 3 large and 2 small
  • I chose two rose stamps with three layers each
  • apply anti static powder to the coral cardstock
  • stamp the 1st layer with versamark and heat emboss with clear ink
  • stamp the 2nd layer with versamark and heat emboss with Metalline Flame embossing powder
  • stamp the 3rd layer with versamark and heat emboss with Gold Sparkle embossing powder.
  • repeat above steps for the two smaller roses
  • die cut and set aside
Sentiment
  • apply heat activated gold foil to the sentiment plate by following the instructions for your heat foiling machine
  • another option would be to heat emboss a sentiment onto brown cardstock with sparkle gold embossing powder.
  • both options would add a cohesive touch to the overall card design

TIPS

  • It can be tricky to stamp over a heat embossed image as it is a slippery surface
  • A stamp positioning tool can help to keep the ink from smearing as layers are added to the image
  • Avoid overheating the embossing powders as layers are added. Heat just enough to melt the powder.
  • Use an anti static powder tool between each layer so the embossing powder sticks only to the versamark ink.
