Hello Everyone!
Welcome to my Crafty Corner.
Today I am sharing cards I created for Altenew Academy's class "Celebrations - Stencil Techniques" offered by Laurel Beard. In this class, Laurel shows us many fun and creative ways to use stencils in our cardmaking.
I made my own stencils and water colored through stencils using a layering stencil set.
Here are the cards I am presenting today.
Please note: I made my own stencil for both cards with 100 lb Neenah Solar White Cardstock and Altenew's Garden Trellis Cover Die. I used the die cut to create the background for both cards.
Today, I am going to walk you through the process I used to create the water colored card. I am going to provide one supply list.
I designed the first card as sort of a map, which was very helpful with creating the second card. I process information visually, so I needed to see how the layering stencil set worked from start to finish.
To accomplish my goal, I used ink blending to create the first card and water color to create the second card. Since watercolor is hard to "control", it is helpful to have a "map".

Card #1
Die cut the image with Neenah Cardstock. Place the die cut onto the sticky mat and stencil.
Since this set does not include a stamp, I had no image to follow so I improvised by ink blending the entire first layer with Honeydew Glow ink. This provides a nice base to work with and creates a warm feel to the image.
Leaves: Ink blend the leaves, alternating layers with Honeydew Glow and Blue Horizon inks. Layered together, these two inks create a beautiful green.
Roses: First Layer - Ink blend Cotton Candy ink over the Honeydew Glow.
Second Layer - ink blend coral Red. Third Layer - Cherry Sweet. Fourth Layer - Cherry Sweet. Ink Blend Rhodolite - center of bottom flower.
Stamen: First Layer - Honeydew Glow. Second Layer - Blue Horizon.
To create the background, use the Garden Trellis cover die cut, ink blend Cotton Candy Ink with the mini blending tool.
Adhere the floral to the panel and trim off the excess.
Die cut sentiment twice with the white card stock and glue together and adhere to the panel and add gems.
Card #2
Card #1 provided a nice map to follow as we create this card with watercolor.
First, we take the remaining white cardstock panel and trim to 4" x 5 1/4".
Next we take the die cut and flip it over so the inked side is face down. Using a palate knife, spread the white embossing paste over the stencil and set aside to dry.
Die cut the image from watercolor paper. I used hot press, but you can use any watercolor paper you have.
A few things I found helpful: apply the watercolors to a palate and add water to achieve the value you desire. Mix equal amounts of autumn blaze and crimson to create the darkest color.

(Altenew 36 color pan watercolor set - Forest Glades, Bamboo, Warm Sunshine, Orange Cream, Autumn Blaze and Crimson)
First Layer - ink blend the leaves and florals with Honeydew Glow Ink. This creates a visual layer making it easy to line up the stencils. It also provides a nice warm glow to the image. This is our base layer.
Next, watercolor through each stencil starting with the lightest color and ending with the darkest. The layered stencil is easy to follow. I used very little water in the brush to help prevent the paint from bleeding under the stencil. If the paint bleeds, blot with a paper towel and continue on.
I trimmed the image into three pieces, adhered to the embossed panel, die cut the sentiment from the middle of the gold glitter panel and put aside. Adhere the glitter panel to the card base, then adhere the embossed panel. Die cut shadow die from white cs, adhere the sentiment and add to the panel. Add gems.
Thank you for stopping by. Please consider giving this technique a try.
